Home Modification Guide
Over the years, the home becomes a special place to many of us. When a disability or simply the natural process of aging makes it difficult to get around, we are faced with a dilemma. Do we leave all of the memories and comfort of home behind to move into a more accessible location, or do we stay put and continue to tolerate a potentially unsafe living environment?
Fortunately, there is a third way. There are many resources available in the Charlottesville region for homeowners or renters who decide to modify their home to meet their changing needs. The purpose of this website is to provide useful information for making the decision to modify.
The first section explains a few of the home modification options that are available, improvements ranging from a few grab bars to a chair lift to get upstairs. Perhaps this can jog your imagination for making your home fit you better. The second section introduces a number of people in our community who can help you through this process. Finally, the third section provides information on some grants and other financial help to make home modification possible for all income ranges.
We hope this site will equip you to make the best decision to meet your unique needs.Resources for Citizens of the Thomas Jefferson Planning District.
